    New Important Dates in Pennsylvania

    The state of Pennsylvania has changed several upcoming deadlines and dates. Please be aware that this list is not exhaustive, and was created April 13, 2020. We will do our best to continue to update these deadlines.

     

    Income Tax Deadline Extended

    The new filing deadline for PA and Federal taxes is July 15, 2020.

    What does this mean?

    Pennsylvania taxpayers will have an additional 90 days to file their state and federal taxes (extended from the original deadline of April 15). This extension applies to 2019 final tax returns and final payments as well as estimated payments for the first and second quarters of 2020.

    With the Department of Revenue’s call centers closed due to the mitigation efforts to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Department of Revenue is encouraging taxpayers to use its Online Customer Service Center.

    PA Driver Licenses

    PA Licenses expiring before April 30 now expire May 31, 2020.

    What does this mean?

    Expiration dates for driver licenses, identification cards, learner’s permits, persons with disability placards, vehicle registrations, and safety & emission inspections will be extended for all Pennsylvania residents. With Penndot locations closed for the foreseeable future, it is likely that ongoing closures will extend this expiration deadline again. Keep up to date on the Penndot website.

    Real ID

    The REAL ID deadline has been extended to October 1, 2021.

    What does this mean?

    Beginning October 1, 2021, Pennsylvania residents will need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license, photo ID card, or other forms of federally-acceptable identification to board a domestic commercial flight. REAL ID is optional, and will not be required to drive, vote, or acquire federal benefits come October 2021. However, this ID will be necessary for some federally-operated government facilities and military operations.

    Pennsylvania Primary Election

    The Pennsylvania primary election has been postponed until June 2, 2020.

    What does this mean?

    All upcoming election-related deadlines have been updated. you can select the candidate you would like to run for office during the general election during the updated primary election time. There have also been updates to absentee and mail-in ballot applications.
